Fabulous site! Took me ages to wade through all the pics and try to place where the buildings were but I got there eventually and what happy memories they brought back. I was born and brought up in the Shaws from 1952 and lived there until I married in 1978. Born in Haggs Road and then moved to Birness Drive. Can you tell me if George Rowntree is the same person that lived at 36 Haggs Road? I remember the name from there and he had a son called Colin and I think there was another who's name I cannot remember. My mum worked in McClurgs fishmongers and was a weel kent face. Her name was Cathy McDougall nee Robertson. Anyone who would like to contact me please feel free. Thanks Lorna.

I seek information on Wilkie families living in Pollokshaws late 1700. David Wilkie married Elizabeth Hart in 1786. They had a large family but their youngest son named James married Jean Drysdale in 1808. If anyone has any information about this family please contact me.ThanksDoug WilkieVictoria, Canada

Hello from Australia, I have just today discovered this website. My ancestors, Sproulls and Sinclairs came from this region so I have found it all very interesting. Thanks and keep up the good work, Gwen

I'm researching my family history and may have found a reference to ancestors in the 1861 census in ""Industrial School, Bengal"". Do you know of any records pertaining to this (ragged) school?

Having left The Shaws in 1969 to live here in Australia, I came accross this great site by chance and enjoyed it very much. Hope to see it in reality in the future.Cheers!

Thank you for this site!I was born in the 'shaws in 1937, and apparently was quite an observant child, because I remember SO many details of my childhood at 274 shawbridge street, and later up the wellmeadow so that the pictures in the gallery made me sit up and take notice, sadly, the last few shots reminded me that it's true, you can't go home again. be that as it may,I thoroughly enjoyed the pictures and would be very happy to share my memories.
