Fantastic, just read about this website in the New Shaws magazine delivered today. I was born (1959) and brought up in Westwood Road and returned back to live in Westwood Road in 1996. Although it's no longer the place it used to be hopefully with all the work thats going on at present, and planned for the future will restore Pollokshaws to its former glory. Long live Pollokshaws!!

Sir John Stirling Maxwell School. I believe 1907 will be the centenary year of the school building. As I was involved in the half centuary celebrations I wondered what plans there were for the centenary?

I often heard my Mother talk of 'the Shaws' meaning Pollockshaws. Her family were McLeans Grandfather John McLean Grandmother Margaret Craig or Ashcroft they lived in Govan but came from Pollockshaws originally I believe. I would like to find out more about this family and the area Where would I begin?

Very interesting website! Can anybody tell me anything about the large house (we used to call it the castle) that stood at the top of the ""kirky"", now Hillpark? Someone once told me it used to belong to the famous Barr family (irn bru) and then by the hepburn family (tailors). It was demolished in the sixties to make way for Hillpark School and the housing complex.

The views of the Cabin bar brought back memories. As kids in the 50's we would support our meagre incomes by jumping the fence through the close at the Campbell Library, retrieving some ""stamped"" beer bottles and receiving payment for them at the bar. Needless to say it wasn't long before we were rumbled !

Saw your URL in Pollokshaws Library. My boyhood was spent in Shawlands, but used to go to Pollokshaws swimming baths often, then get freshly baked hot rolls at the bakers opposite."
