I lived at 274 Shawbridge street from 1932 till 1946. My name was Ann Pirrie. I wonder if any of my old friends are still around - Eleanor Scott, Ann Taylor, Etta Madden, Moira Edgar.I've lived in the States for 54 years but Pollokshaws has always had a place in my heart. I remember the horse drawn coal cart, the gas street lights, playing peever, whip and peerie, summer nights that barely got dark - wonderfull memories.

I was brought up in Pollokshaws, 39.1/2 Greenview Street, Yes thirty nine and a half Greenview Street. I was known as Ellie McKay. Have school photo with the following people. Where are you now. Heather Glen, Helen Faulds, Florence Pirie, Jim Kelly, Billy Davis, Helen Gilmour, Douglas Coultart, Jessie Lyons, Betty Taylor, John Broadley, All the Guest Book comments are very interesting - my time in the Shaws was from 1940 - 1963 - I moved to 26 Harriet Street about 1952. Anyone still on this planet......?????"

Very interesting. My great grandparents - John Donald and Agnes Boyd - were married in 1881 at 63 Main Street (forms of the Free Church of Scotland). They lived at 36 Main Street. He was a blacksmith's hammerman and she a ""confection merchant"". So the Main Street photographs have special interest.

Thank you for this very interesting site. My ggg grandfather was born in Pollokshaws in 1824. Although the photos on the site were taken a long time after that I was still able to get a very good idea of the town.

My grandmother Euphemia Lamont was born in 34 Pollock Street in 1895, went to the local school and later emigrated to NZ. I have a photo of her parents and their other children in front of the Carron Iron Works. I'm visiting the area on 12th-13th August and wonder if you have any suggestions for museums covering the late 1800s or anything else of relevance. I can send a file with the images i mentioned if I can get an email and contact name. Many thanks for your consideration, Ed Zanders, Cambridge

I have been excited about this website however could an old streetmap of the area be put on the site. In the 1861 census my great great grandfather lived at 14 King St. and his occupation was porter. I wonder if this was at the George Hotel? His son was a litho printer. Was there a printing works in Pollokshaw?
