Can you tell me where to find the list of hand loom weavers in Eastwood. My 3xgreat grandfather was a hand loom weaver born in Eastwood and married in Kilbarchan. His name was Thomas Dow. I live in Suffolk so it's not easy to look up information and at that time the Dow family didn't register births at church. Many thanks.

I've been doing family history. My grandmother(Susan Prow)married a Canadian soldier(grandfather William Lahay) after WW1 in Glasgow & came to Canada with him. I found a passenger list of a trip she took back to Glasgow in 1921 with her first child to visither parents. The address she gave on this list says, 3 Hillcrest Terrace, Pollokshaws, Glasgow, your map doesn't show a street with this name today, so could you help. I've found this site extremely interesting. I am planning on being in Glasgow in October & would like to visit Pollokshaws. Any information regarding this address would be appreciated, I'd like to at least find the spot this home was at & tour around Pollokshaws. Susans' parents were Arthur Prow & Helen Kells, her siblings were Ellen, Samuel, Arthur & Charles. Anyone know of any decendants of these people who may be still in the Glasgow area, Iwould very much like to meet them. Thank You.

Hi very interesting reading. I have a question. I am researching my family history and have discovered a member of my family living a Pollookshaws in Co Down Ireland. His surname was Edgar. Do you have any Edgar records from Pollockshaw? regards Steve Edgar

Anyone from the 50's remember Gina Harrison who worked at Strangs the butcher. I'm her daughter (Irene) and intersted in any names I remember from our building on Riverside Road - Margaret Tait, Lina Park, Elizabeth Ramsey and also a friend who often stayed with her Granny - Linda Anderson (who I believed moved to Canada). Any info on any of these folks would be much appreciated. From Irene in California.

My ancestor, James Tassie, son of William Tassie' was born in 1735 in Pollockshaws, Scotland. He became a famous gem modeler and died in 1799. I would like to find out more about one of his siblings, named David, born in 1750 but have come to a brick wall. The only entry in our family tree is that he married but his wife's name was not known and children are William, born 1777 and Ann, no birthdate. The Pollockshaws Heritage Group site is extremely interesting.

The 1881 census shows my g.grandparents,William Callaghan and Jane Callaghan neeRitchie living at Eastwood with their daughter Helen Sinclair Callaghan.Their second daughter Jane Rafter Callaghan was born in 1881 at 60 King Street Pollockshaws.By the time of the 1891 census the family were living in Newcastle upon Tyne and their surname had changed to McCallum. I would be interested to know if there was any event in which William Callaghan could have been involved which would have led him to leave the area and change his name. Regards Malcolm McCallum

Hello there.I was born and bred in The Shaws.I was born Jan.1954.I lived at No.1 Coustonhill St.I recently obtained a copy of your D.V.D.I viewed for the first time today.I was absolutley astounded when I saw the Images of the Auld Shaws, truly amazed! It brought back Many Happy Memories indeed.I was particularly interested in one of the Photos which was taken at the corner of Coustonholm Rd.and Coustonhill St. Where, I could clearly see the Close where I stayed.I have a Picture of myself taken while I was climbing on some railings,I think this building was a Pottery or something like that, and the name on the building was Boyd.I was only a lad when the photo was taken,so I could well be wrong about that.I would also be interested in knowing more about your Organisation.Thankyou once again for the Great D.V.D its Fantastic. Many a time in the 1930s I walked through the Shaws to a factory owned by my grandfather. The company was the ""Eastwood Beetling Company"" I had hoped that I might have seen a glimpse of it in the photos but unfortunately not.I do recall that it was located on the same road as Kennedy Dairies. Many of the photos were of areas that I remember.
